Table Tennis Blog
Wow, wow, wow!!!
I went to Burussia Düsseldorf 14 days ago, it was my first time at Europe’s most successful club. My vision of a TT club/centre was very nearly in front of my eyes.
Imagine two basketball courts, now double it and now you have 1 playing hall, with a capacity of 30 tables plus. That's one hall! And there was three of them, all state of the art. 😱
One hall had facilities for TT training only, used by the pro's, the other built for female players only and the main hall had seating which could be assembled (up to 1200 seats.
I witnessed a so called smaller Bundesliga match but it still drew upon 1000 spectators in support of their home team.
There was a dining area, a gym, accommodation and even a proper hotel on-sight, catering for everyone’s needs.
I had witnessed what a 10 million Euro full time table tennis centre looks like and yet, I believe there is plenty of room to improve upon.
Nevertheless, this is what I have envisaged and continue to build towards. One day I do believe England will and can have such centres scattered around the country.
Table Tennis deserves so much more, but we need the people inside the sport to stand up and fight for what they should and want to have.
